PM-eBus Sewa
Overview
“PM-eBus Sewa” launched on 16th August 2023 aims to augment city bus operations in urban areas with Central Assistance (CA) of ₹20,000 crore for deploying electric buses under the PPP model.
Cities with a population between 3–40 lakh and State Capitals below 3 lakh (as per 2011 census) are eligible.
Ministry has issued Addendum to the Scheme Guidelines that expanded the definition of ‘eligible cities’ to include clusters of adjoining statutory towns (LPAs) and areas merged post-Census 2011 with combined populations between 3–40 lakh, enabling participation of small cities

Current Status
- A total of 50 buses were inaugurated in Nagpur on 14th February 2026, virtually by the Hon. Prime Minister of India.
- Nagpur and Thane Municipal Corporation signed concession agreement with bus operator JBM.
- Most cities are expected to complete depot and charging infrastructure before March 2027.
- 1609 buses have been sanctioned for 22 cities across Maharashtra under the scheme.
- As per scheme guidelines, the depot infrastructure completion timeline is up to March 2027.
- As per scheme guidelines, the scheme operation period is from the date of depot completion for 10 years or up to March 2037.Accordingly, most cities are expected to start bus operations by March 2027.
About the Scheme
- PM-eBus Sewa launched on 16th August 2023 aims to augment urban bus operations in urban areas with central assistance of ₹20,000 crore for deploying 10,000 electric buses under the GCC model.
- Cities with a population between 3-40 lakhs and state capital below 3 lakhs as per 2011 census are eligible; 50 buses for a population of 3-5 lakh population, 100 buses for a population of 5-20 lakh and 150 buses for a population of 20- 40 lakh.
- Govt of Maharashtra GR dt.07.03.2024 for implementation of Centrally Sponsored PM eBus Sewa Scheme.
- Central assistance on Per-km of bus operation for 10 years or upto March 2037, depending on the size of bus: ₹24 for standard buses (12 meter), ₹22 for midi buses (9 meter) and ₹20 for mini buses (7 meter).
- Central assistance for Behind-the-meter(BTM) Power infrastructure: 100%; for Civil infrastructure of Depot: 60%
