Introduction
Shirdi Municipal Council has successfully implemented solar energy projects across various municipal properties and utility sites. These projects were funded through prize money from campaigns like ‘Majhi Vasundhara’ (1.0, 2.0, 3.0) and ‘Swachh Survekshan’, along with grants from the Central Government’s ‘AMRUT’ (1.0 and 2.0) missions .
Project Scope & Implementation
The council has commissioned a total of 5 solar projects with a cumulative capacity of 1.535 MW. Key installations include:
- Water Supply (WTP) : A 500 kW project under AMRUT 1.0 (Operational since April 2024).
- Sewage Treatment (STP): A 500 kW project under AMRUT 2.0 (Operational since June 2024).
- Government Buildings: 110 kW rooftop solar across 11 municipal buildings, including the main office and fire station .
- Sewage Pump Houses : A 290 kW project for pump houses 02 and 03 .
- Solid Waste Management: A 135 kW project for waste processing plants .
Impact & Success
- Energy Generation: These projects generate approximately 1,28,150 units of electricity monthly.
- Financial Savings: To date, the council has saved a total of ₹1.87 Crores in electricity bills.
- Sustainability: The initiative significantly reduces the operational costs of essential public services like water supply and waste management.
